When I read about the Taylor Swift/Kanye West issue at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, I thought it was just another publicity stunt, similar to others performed at the shows, such as the Madonna and Britney kiss or the Brüno stunt, whereby he landed on Eminem’s face. Then I saw the video, and I couldn’t believe how low West really got. He literally burst on stage and ruined the young Country-Pop star’s acceptance speech, in which she was thanking the fans for and all that voted for her music video.
Kanye has had other outbursts, for example, when he decided to pop onto stage to give his two cents for “Touch the Sky” being far more deserving of a video music award, compared to Justice vs. Simian’s “We are your Friends”. But, this one was far more shocking.
Kanye has most definitely made a show of himself again at Radio City, New York on the weekend, which forced him to be removed from the show, but will it damage his career. After his half-arsed speech, who knows:
I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave… That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.
Good on you West. A heart-felt apology if I ever saw one.
But, the bigger question is: Who the hell keeps allowing him on stage?
