I really do love music, especially when I see superb Irish talent.

Last night I experienced three fantastic bands live: Codes, Fred and Bluemoose.

Codes, the Dublin indie-electronica outfit kicked off the events at The Academy, Dublin yesterday evening. Bursting onto stage, albeit to a small crowd that soon grew larger, they kicked off with “This is Goodbye”, their brilliant song, taken from their latest album “Trees dream in Algebra”. They continued their set with the powerful tracks from their début release, crossing songs that were uplifting, passionate and wonderfully melodic. I was right up the front, against the barrier, enjoying the performance from this dynamic band.

Seriously, if you’ve not got this album already; go get it. Now.

After Codes, Fred, the Cork band graced the stage and jumped straight away into another energetic set. The group’s third album “Go God Go” is currently available in all the usual locations and it’s well worth checking out. Fred displayed their accomplished musical talents, playing to a now full main room of punters, embracing the electrifying performance.

The final act of the night was Bluemoose, a band who blasted out songs in their personal guitar-driven stylings. Think Katy Perry, then think “Hot N’ Cold” torn to shreds and recomposed, brilliantly and accurately, in the style of a hard rock group. Bluemoose travelled across many genres during their show, lending their eardrum bursting ways to some of pop musics’ finest songs. But, of course, they offered, I suspect their first love, hard rock and metal for us to enjoy. Standout tracks were the Michael Jackson mash-up and Linkin Park’s “One Step Closer”. These guys are playing tonight in Dicey’s in Dublin at 8pm, so pop down to the gig. You won’t regret it.
