P3sessions med Madcon og Karpe Diem

Despite the fact that I've not posted an article in a few days, doesn't mean that I've popped off the face of the planet- I've been very much alive and kicking on Twitter and the usual haunts in the real world where you care to find me. And, as I've been going by with my regular routine, I've been listening to a lot of new music and generally hooking my ears up to the wondrous marvels that have been recently released.

One great song is Everything, by Dublin 7-piece The Matinee Idles. I'll be honest, I was directed to this by the lovely folks at Army of ID, who crafted and put together the picturesque and intriguing video for the song. The four minute track was visually directed by Quintin Ahern from the company for the band, who are sure to make it big, after hearing this musical snippet. It's worth checking out, and pay attention to the imagery- it's quite interesting. And yes, that is the Dublin pub The Stag's Head.

In other music related news, I'm glad to see that Madcon have released Glow, the song that was used during the interval of the recent Eurovision Song Contest. You would think that seven minutes of an extended, original mix would be trash, but it's quite the feel good song, for some strange reason. You can buy it in the usual places, and watch the interval video below.

I've been reviewing the latest festival news lately too, and I'm going to the fantastic Indiependence festival in Mitchelstown, County Cork, later this summer. Already confirmed are brilliant acts such as White Lies, Reverend & The Maker, Jape, Delorentos, Codes, Alabama 3 and Duke Special, to name but a few. Should be quality, as will be the Sony Ericsson Temple House Festival which I have previously blogged about. I think the battle for the best boutique/small Irish festival is well under-way, and contenders include the two of these. Maybe I should head along to Electric Picnic and see how that goes?

And, as it's Friday, some of my big tunes are these, with thanks to Muzu.tv.

"Can't Be Tamed" - Miley Cyrus

There's a strange air of likeability about this track. Sure, the hype of the "lesbian" kiss which the offspring of the Achy Breaky Heart signer supposedly faked during last week's Britain Got Talent show, but it's also a pretty decent pop song. Oh, and also because the King Kong references in the video are rife. Go for it Miley.

"Gettin' Over You" - David Guetta Feat. Chris Willis and Fergie (Feat. LMFAO)

It's another big track from Guetta's One Love album, now with the additional vocals of the Black Eyed Peas' front woman and the two foul-mouth rappers with the big hair and wacky glasses. Seriously, it's a good song and has a most baffling video. I think Guetta has something about parties in the street and folks with big speakers. Check it for yourself.

"Wavin' Flag" - K'Nann

It's not an anthem that will go down in time as one of the all time great World Cup tracks, but as I saw it a few hours ago, chanted and sung by the artist on-stage, with thousands upon thousands of guests in a stadium singing along, I can see that it's simplicity and unity is the type of energy that suits the event it was recorded for.  It's one of the main songs, and even though it's not as good as Shakira's Time for Africa, it is worth mentioning.

"Tenderoni" - Kele

I've always been a big Bloc Party fan, and I've always loved the mastermind, Kele. Now, the video for the first single off his solo, dance inspired album, is out, and it's pretty damn good. The track is now even better, and I didn't think that was even possible.

"Just Over A Year" - Jody Has a Hitlist

It's the début track from the Dublin pop-punk outfit who won a Meteor award this year. I see bright things for the future of the band, and a strong song to kick-off their step into the musical word, as shown below, is a good start. Keep up the great work, lads.

And. in brief, well done to The Coronas as they've been confirmed as the support act for legend Paul McCartney as he lands in The RDS this weekend. Tickets are still on-sale, from €70 to a whopping €152. The Terenure four-piece are on-stage at 7pm, with Macca on from 8.

Dizzee Rascals' world cup song has been released on download immediately, after a rush to get it out into the public. Shout for England features 'comedian' James Corden and is a cover of Tears for Fears' song Shout. The proceeds are going to Great Ormonde Street Hospital, and the song is backed by Simon Cowell, but was questioned by producer and fellow previous collaborator Calvin Harris.

Finally, Jay-Z is to appear on M.I.A's latest offering, XXXO. The version is to be released as an official remix, and is similar to his appearance on Boyz, a song from M.I.A. a number of years ago. [Via Nialler9]
