If you’re on the hunt for a good small-medium sized festival to visit this year, don’t forget to include the Westport Festival of Music & Food, taking place on the June 28th/29th. The two-day event has a great line up of acts, with lots to see and do. Here’s the line-up:
Squeeze, Martha Wainright, Elvis Costello and The Imposters, Imelda May, Christy Moore, Declan Sinnott, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, Blind Boys of Alabama, ABC, The Stunning, Alabama 3, Damien Dempsey, Ryan Sheridan, Hayseed Dixie, The Grand Parade, The Silver Seas, LAPD (Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Liam O’Flynn, Paddy Glackin), Jack L, The Riptide Movement, Sharon Corr, Gavin James, Julie Feeney, Cry Before Dawn, I Draw Slow, The Clew Bay Pipe Band, Hermitage Green, New Sunset Hotel, Delorentos, Le Galaxie, Squarehead, Daithi, Funeral Suits, Kid Karate, Sleep Thieves, Mojo Gogo, Elaine Mai, In Their Thousands, So Cow, DOTT, The Depravations, Doghouse, and Stephen James Band.
Update: Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott added to the bill.
Also, they have a comedy tent going on, with some big-hitters, like Phil Jupitus (Never Mind the Buzzcocks), Barry Murhpy (Après Match), Bernard O’Shea (Republic of Telly), Joe Rooney, Karl Spain, Danny Dowling, and Colin Murphy.
The organisers have also told me that they’ve put a lot into the on-site facilities, including a pop-up hair salon from Dylan Bradshaw, a photo-booth by renowned photographer Barry McCall, The Cotton Club – a jazz cocktail bar, and a dedicated Roisin Dubh stage. Foodies are also catered for, with a variety of stalls and restaurants providing some of the best food that the West has to offer. Who says you can’t dine in style, whilst rocking in your wellies?
Tickets are on sale now from the festival website, with day passes priced at €75, and weekend wristbands for €130. As you can see, it is a belter of festival. I’ll be sure to head to this one.
