  • "It’s a Wicked Wednesday!"

Posted on September 16, 2009 at 10:30 am

  • Tanssilattia. / Dancefloor.

It’s Wednesday baby. Only three more days to the weekend.

As I’ve fallen back on my Tuneskies of the Day lately, I felt it was only right for it to make a come back, with a midweek special. Today, let’s hear it for all songs that can be called “An Oldie, but a Goodie”.

    First up…

    Christopher Walken steals the show…

Fatboy Slim – Weapon Of Choice

The YouTube phenomenon, with a great track and a brilliant video.

OK Go – Here It Goes Again

And, sure, it’s not very fast or jazzy for Wicked Wednesday, but it’s got a great video: created without special effects, where Tom Yorke really did become submerged in water. Fantastic song, gobsmacking video.

    Radiohead – No Surprises

    Lets hear it for Wednesday!

  • "Kanye Strikes Again"

Posted on September 15, 2009 at 10:30 am

  • MR. WEST.

When I read about the Taylor Swift/Kanye West issue at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, I thought it was just another publicity stunt, similar to others performed at the shows, such as the Madonna and Britney kiss or the Brüno stunt, whereby he landed on Eminem’s face. Then I saw the video, and I couldn’t believe how low West really got. He literally burst on stage and ruined the young Country-Pop star’s acceptance speech, in which she was thanking the fans for and all that voted for her music video.

Kanye has had other outbursts, for example, when he decided to pop onto stage to give his two cents for “Touch the Sky” being far more deserving of a video music award, compared to Justice vs. Simian’s “We are your Friends”. But, this one was far more shocking.

Kanye has most definitely made a show of himself again at Radio City, New York on the weekend, which forced him to be removed from the show, but will it damage his career. After his half-arsed speech, who knows:

I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave…      That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her.  I am truly sorry.

Good on you West. A heart-felt apology if I ever saw one.

But, the bigger question is: Who the hell keeps allowing him on stage?

  • "Monday’s Mailbag: Tea for Me!"

Posted on September 14, 2009 at 6:21 pm

  • As you may know, I recently won a nice box of tea, crafted by a master blender, courtesy of Direct Line. And, much to my delight, I received the box in the mail today, chucked in the door (literally) by the postman.

For your (but, mostly my) viewing pleasure, here’s the snaps of the delicious blend. Sure, I’d give it 5/5. Okay, that’s bias.

The parcel, without my address on it.

The fantastical interior. The red paper becomes a huge poster (image to follow) and the text area is an included press release, which makes for longwinded, but interesting bedtime reading.

The box, sans- wrapping. The definition of a “teamergency” is written clearly, for those who don’t already know.

The grand finale, 20 wonderful cups of tea. And, no, I’ve not already polished them off. I must restrain myself.

Thanks Teamergency Team, and all at Direct Line/Unity.

  • "Update: Saturday 12th September."

Posted on September 12, 2009 at 7:46 pm

  • day 015 #tasskaff365

Whoa. Is it just me or is this year flying by? September already. Yikes.

I felt it was only right to give an update on all that’s going on at O’Keeffe Towers. After all, it’s been a few days since I last posted, and I’m not the best right now at sticking to my daily doses of irrelevant wisdom and facto-nuggets, as I promised to turn the Blog into, some few months ago. Forgive me. It’s not you, it’s me.

Anyway, I’m been keeping *slightly* busy with the Sony Ericsson Fanwalk campaign, which, due to reasons out of the contestants control, has been extended. Basically, six countries remain in voting stages, of which Ireland is included. Rumours circulating suggest that votes were so close between contestants that a later closing date was required. Now, I’m unsure of the actual cause, but all I know is that voting is still welcomed. If you’ve not done so already, join the Facebook group and vote until your mouse is worn-out, please. Now that I’ve more time, I can get the videos up that I didn’t get around to by the previous deadline.

Other notable events include my win of a box of luxury tea crafted by Alex Probyn from the lovely folks across the waters in Direct Line Insurance, thanks to my Twittering. I’ve also been listening to a lot of CODES (The lovely guys are appearing at the DIT Freshers Ball, I must add. These guys are going to be huge…), David Guetta (Go buy “One Love”, his latest album now),  Deadmau5, Industry (Not this Industry) and some quality cuts from AC/DC. Varied, if anything. Plus, a week and a half of being sick has enabled me to watch all the series of 30 Rock and The Office. Go watch these shows- they are incredible.

    O’Keeffe out.

  • "Goodbye, Wogan."

Posted on September 7, 2009 at 9:06 pm

  • Terry Wogan

It’s been a sad day since I’ve heard, officially, about it. Terry Wogan, a true broadcasting legend, is stepping down from his role on BBC 2’s “Wake up to Wogan” show, and is being replaced by Chris Evans.

Wogan, I personally felt, was an inspiration- a man of superb intelligence, passion and dignity, with a great sense of humour and a truly professional nature. His show was an excellent example of this; a programme he crafted into his own.

Although he is not disappearing completely from our ears, this is a big loss, especially after he already stepped down from Eurovision.

    Wogan, I salute you.

    His speech in full:

“Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’ve a little bit of news of my own.

If the mail is anything to go by, most of the listening population have spotted a report that next year, I’m going to turn into Chris Evans. And I hate to tell you, but it’s true.

I was hoping to break it to you, my loyal listener, more gently. I wanted to be the first to tell you. It’s the least I owe you, for endless years, countless hours of morning companionship, friendship, good humour, and laughter.

Your loyalty and support has been a beacon of love in my life. There hasn’t been a morning, no matter how dark and drear, that I haven’t had a smile on my face and a song in my heart at the prospect of your company, your marvellous mail, your wit and wisdom.

It touches me deeply that I have played a part in your lives, for it seems like generations; mothers and fathers who tell me how they force their children to listen to me in the morning, just as they were forced by their parents. And many many people, alone, ill or sad, for whom Wake up to Wogan has been a comfort and a consolation.

Let me tell you, it will never match what all of you have meant to me.

This is the hardest thing I have ever done in my broadcasting career, to say goodbye to you in the mornings. But if not this year, when? 5 years, 10?

I’d rather leave while we’re in love, as the song says, while the programme is the most popular on British radio, while we still delight in each others company.

So, this is not goodbye, it’s not even au revoir. As they used to say when I was a lad, “See you later alligator…in a while, crocodile”

And so we will, until the end of the year, when my good friend Chris Evans takes over; I know that you’ll give him the same love and affection you’ve always shown to me.

However, before you heave a sigh of relief at my passing, you needn’t think that you’ve seen or heard the last of me. I’ll be there until hell freezes over with Proms in the Park (see you there on Saturday next) and of course, Children in Need.

My great and good Togs will still be rallying in that great cause, and I’ll be with them every step of the way, including the voyage. And in the new year, I’ll be starting a really exciting new show, live from the BBC Radio Studio at Broadcasting House in front of you, as my live audience, presenting the very pinnacle of live music, artists, guests, and of course, you, your mail, your warmth, your wit.”

    Wogan, you will be missed.
