It really sucks that I’m posting this, but it’s got to be done.
I got the word about this, and I felt it was only right that I would write up a press release so that I can stress how much I appreciate the effort made by everyone with the campaign I launched just over a month ago. I am genuinely thrilled by the effort made by supporters. Without you, it really wouldn’t have been as successful as it was. After all, supporters submitted artwork and designed posters, created videos, and much more. But, most importantly, you spread the word to your friends, family and everyone you could. That’s why we’ve got nearly 11,000 of you on Facebook alone, and many more on Twitter and scattered across the other places on the interweb.
I won’t bring the mood or tone down, so I’m going to keep our spirits high and leave you with the press release just posted on the MTV for Dublin website. Yes, it’s not the outcome we wanted, but we gave it a good attempt and made some noise, which is the main thing. Who knows, I may even try it again.
Seriously though, thank you all so much for your support- it really made a difference.
Felicitaciones, Madrid. Disfrutaréis los premios.
Love and respect,
Dave.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MTV FOR DUBLIN confirms that Madrid, Spain, will be the host city for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010
DUBLIN, IRELAND, MARCH 16, 2010:
MTV for Dublin, the official campaign launched in early 2010 with the aim to bring the MTV Europe Music Awards to Ireland, regretfully declares that the awards will not be hosted in Dublin, as Madrid, Spain, has been chosen as the host city for the event, taking place in November 2010.
Today, MTV Networks International (MTVNI) a division of Viacom Inc., announced that the annual awards are to take place in Madrid at the “Caja Magica” sports complex in the Spanish capital.
“It is a pity that the awards were not to be held in Dublin”, MTV for Dublin founder David O’Keeffe said earlier today after receiving the news. “I do, however, extend my sincere thanks to all the supporters, individuals and personnel who assisted in the success and popularity of our campaign. Within days, our Facebook group reached a significant number of people, and in addition to our comprehensive website and social networking presence, it was clear that the people of Dublin and Ireland were committed to welcoming the MTV Europe Music Awards, and for that I am truly grateful”.
MTV for Dublin did not exclude the notion of attempting to bid for the awards again, commented O’Keeffe. “Yes, we didn’t get the awards this year, but it most definitely doesn’t stop us trying to get it again. But, as I have encouraged throughout the campaign, I welcome feedback and opinion from all supporters. This is your campaign, so your voice matters.”
The MTV for Dublin team congratulate the citizens of Madrid on their success of receiving the MTV Europe Music Awards, and wish them luck with the show.
About MTV for Dublin
MTV for Dublin was launched in February 2010 by David O’Keeffe to promote Dublin City as a host for the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards. Initially featuring as a group on Facebook, with a great deal of support and members, it sparked the creation of a detailed website, www.MTVforDublin.com. The campaign received strong support from press and media outlets in Ireland, mentioned on RTÉ 2fm, Spin 1038, Dublin’s 98 and DCUFM, in addition to articles on Ireland.com, Entertainment.ie, and reference by Heineken Music.

Forget the X Factor, it’s overrated. However, a charity singing contest in aid of the deserving Temple Street Childrens Hospital is where you really want to steal the limelight. And, now’s your chance.
This Thursday I will be the guest MC at IADT Factor: a great night of music, entertainment and slagging your friends. I was honoured to be the guest (and surprise) Master of Ceremonies at the event, where people can enjoy the music from the excellent acoustic artist, Eoin Dixon Murphy, followed by a very, very special Karaoke session along with some X Factor style antics.

On the night, Mr. Stephen Daly from Dublin’s FM104 will be one of the cruel, evil and mysterious judges separating the talent from the terror to give away some fantastic prizes to the worthy performers. There will also be other hijinks on the night, on an evening which shouldn’t be missed. And, most importantly, all the proceeds are going directly to Temple Street.
It’s a mere €3 entry for the entire evening- that’s less than the cost of a pint. Can you imagine the value already as you see your best mate singing on stage, getting the thumbs up or thumbs down from the folks in “the biz”? Priceless, I know.
I’ll see you there. I know you’ll love it.
Where:
Bakers Corner, Kill O’The Grange, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland – Click for a map.
When:
9pm until late.
How Much?:
A mere €3. That’s less than the price of a pint, and a around 1/3 of the cost of a pack of fags.
Who?:
- Eoin Dixon Murphy – Emerging acoustic artist
- Stephen Daly – Dublin’s FM104
- David O’Keeffe – That’s me. You know what I do already.
& Many more special guests.
It’s time for you to take your social networking into the real world.
The 2nd Foursquare Streetup is taking place at Café Novo at The Westbury Hotel in Dublin- a fantastical Bacardi Streetup. It’s on this Thursday: March 11th, from 6.30 onwards, and it’s going to be a great evening. Best of all- it’s free!
It’s been organised by Niall Fagan of Simply Zesty, and already scheduled to appear is expert Mixologist Paul Lambert from Bacardi. He’s going to rustle up some brilliant and wholly tasty concoctions and teach all Foursquare members how to make their own. Plus, if you check-in at Café Novo that evening on Foursquare, you’ll be able to make your own cocktail too! And, quite possibly, a Foursquare record could be broken for all guests, but that will be explained on the night.
The rumour mill/a little birdie has mentioned that there will be other prizes on the night, and to seal the deal, one lucky member will win one night B&B in the 5 Star Westbury Hotel. What more could you ask for on a Thursday evening?
See, social networking pays off.
If you’re on Foursquare, register for the event now, and if you’re not on the website yet, sign-up now and pop down to the streetup!
