  • "Internet Cooking Lessons"

Posted on February 13, 2010 at 12:22 pm

  • I used to be a big fan of VideoJug, the “How To” website with videos uploaded by professionals and users themselves, because of the excellent access to content of a good quality, and also due to some of the hilariously funny guides they’ve posted. I have learnt some helpful things that I needed to know- such as when I was hanging a curtain rail in the bathroom and when I needed to fold a tee-shirt, fast. They were enjoyable and fun to learn from, and strangely enough, I remember how to do the tasks I’ve watched. However, over the last few days I’ve been doing a lot of cooking in the kitchen, and my best friend while doing that has been YouTube.

Yesterday I cooked an omelette using a clip I found of some “chef”, and it was suprisingly good.  I stuffed it with a strange (but gorgeous) mix of sauté onions, diced peppers, cheese, bacon and some chopped up sausages. Was it tasty? You bet.

    Perfection, really.

The secret? Butter and a hot pan. None of this sunflower oil junk.

Sure, its not as healthy, but it is golden good.

I wonder has Donal got any advice?

  • "TotD: Billy Talent, MGMT, The Bloody Beetroots, Steve Aoki and Chewy Chocolate Cookies"

Posted on February 11, 2010 at 1:39 pm

  • As mentioned on Twitter last night, I’m going to bring back daily more frequent Tuneskies of the Day.

I’m not trying to make this personal blog related only to music (I’ll leave the legend that is Nialler9 to that), but I do like to share and ramble on about some audio delights that I encounter or listen to. On the microblog I will attempt to keep it regular, with a Tuneskie at least daily, but the website will not be as frequent.

    Got it? Okay. Let’s go.

    Billy Talent – “Saint Veronika”

Taken off Billy Talent III, the latest offering from the Canadian punk outfit, Saint Veronika is the new single- the video of which made its début on the bands Myspace page on February 1st. Hearing Benjamin’s voice (the lead vocalist) brings me straight back to the days when I was listening to their first album. Although the tracks are darker on the newer material, it still gives a delivers a loud, angst-ridden sound. The intro to the video itself could be something from Slipknot, but it is nonetheless worth watching and hearing.

    MGMT – “Time to Pretend”

Congratulations will be hitting our world on April 13th, and I’m pretty excited about it. New material will be a nice change from the constant radio airplay of Kids and Electric Feel: not that I don’t love these songs, and the old album for that matter, but I know that this band can (hopefully) offer another selection of cracking tunes, and if we’re lucky, another memorable performance at Oxegen.

Yes. I still cannot get over the tent at Oxegen 2008, the band leaving the stage due to that drunk chick’ (and everyone else) climbing the support beams, and returning to deliver a highly charged emotional rendition of some of their biggest songs. That really was an incredible show.

Take it away, Time to Pretend and take us back to where it all began…

The Bloody Beetroots feat. Steve Aoki – Warp (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix)

There’s no video for this (and I’m glad there isn’t- it would be bizarre), but it’s the Chewy Chocolate Cookies remix of Warp from the 2009 release Romborama. It’s funky, it’s fun, and it’s most definitely a song to listen to as we approach the weekend.

I’ve got to thank the Albert at SpaceToasters for this one. [Danke]

More Tuneskies of the Day, soon.

(If you’re on Facebook or in a RSS Reader, you probably can’t see the glorious videos. In that case, hit here and enjoy.)

  • "Serious Festival Giggage"

Posted on February 10, 2010 at 9:15 pm

  • Flags near the Little Big Tent

Bring on the concerts, that’s what I say.

I’ve got the Irish Festival Awards tomorrow, which will be über-fantastical (Thanks for the invite, by the way).

Which starts me thinking- what are the festivals going to be like this year? Ireland’s got some pretty good ones- both mainstream and niche. Oxegen is always a sure-fire big boy, with some of the world’s finest musical artists gracing the stage, but lets not forget the superb spectacle that is Electric Picnic. People forget that it was once a single day event- now getting widely recognised as a serious weekend on the Irish (and European) music calendar.

There’s also tons of festivals across the continent worth checking out- many of which I’ve only started to hear about. These events just pop up each year, as the number of them grows enormously.

Who will be playing? Will the old reliables be there from the festival circuit? Who will be new to it? Will some of the huge names from the UK festivals pay us a visit?

‘Tis the season to start anticipating.

Until then, I’m looking forward to rocking out, having some free (sponsored) Bavaria and meeting people tomorrow at the awards.

Summer, how I cannot wait for you.
